Paint Correction Services.

Scratched, swirled or dull paint? We can help!

Did you ever notice what looked like fine spider webs, halos, swirls, etc on your paint? Or, maybe the paint still looked cloudy or dirty after a fresh wash? This is due to many fine, shallow scratches and/or contaminates that become embedded in the paint. Luckily, a cut and polish, or Paint Correction as we call it, can help.

What is Paint Correction?

Paint Correction is multi-step process aiming to remove imperfections, like scratches and swirls, and improve overall appearance and shine.

Part of this includes the “cutting stage”, which removes microscopic layers of clear coat, leveling the top coat to reveal a surface that is clean, flat, shiny, and defect-free. The cutting pads and pads used to target these defects are more aggressive than what is used in a single stage polish which is what allows us to reach these deeper defects.

The level of correction performed is based on the damage to the clear coat, and what’s safest for your paint. New vehicle paint is thinner now than before, and since our goal is to always preserve your paint, this would mean giving your the best results in the least amount of stages as possible.

For proper prep, our paint correction service includes a full exterior decontamination. A paint sealant is applied afterwards to add temporary protection. For long term protection, we strongly recommend Ceramic Coatings and/or Paint Protection Film, though.

Careful! More Stages in a Paint Correction Isn’t Always Better…

Our goal is to always preserve your paint. We aim to remove as little clear coat as possible, and only when safe to do so. No one wants to have to repaint.

Prior to beginning any correction, we measure and record each panel's clear coat thickness to make sure we have a safe amount of paint to work with. If you want “perfect paint”, but your clear coat is measuring a low amount, we would rather work within our limits to preserve your paint rather than do multiple stages and create issues for you later on down the road.

Paint Correction is a delicate process and should only be left to trained professionals, otherwise you risk damaging the paint or end up with thin paint that could be harmful (and costly) to you later.

Comparing Stages of Paint Correction.

  • Paint Enhancement (Single Stage)

A Paint Enhancement, or Single stage polishing, typically:

    • Polishes a vehicle to improve, not remove.

    • Gives the paint a glossy look.

    • Has a faster working time.

    • Products used have minimal abrasives so is ideal for paintwork that is in decent condition, removing only light surface imperfections with a finishing polish and pad.

This process doesn’t “correct” paint so it will usually need to be repeated more often.

  • Paint Correction (Multi-Stage).

Cut and Polish? Vehicle Buffing? Those are terms for paint correction, which is a multiple step process to remove imperfections in the paint.

    A Paint Correction typically:

    • Removes hazing, minor scratches, marring, swirl marks, and other blemishes on the vehicle's clear coat.

    • Uses specialized machines like a rotary or a dual action polisher.

    • Slowly removes microscopic layers of clear coat until the surface is smooth.

Depending on how deep in the clear coat the damage is, extensive paint correction could also include further cutting steps, and even wet sanding.

A paint correction will only need to be repeated if the vehicle is not taken care of. This is why Ceramic Coatings/protectants are beneficial after a paint correction.

  • Spot Correction (Scratch/Scuff Removal)

Spot Correction targets specific problem areas, usually due to damage.

If you find a scratch or scuff on your paint, you might think it needs paint repair. Those defects are usually within the clear coat, so a spot correction to target an isolated area should help reduce or eliminate the appearance of damage.

Let us take a look and we’ll let you know your options.

Visual Comparison:
Paint Enhancement vs Paint Correction.

Paint Enhancement (Single Stage Polish) will add gloss and shine, but it won’t eliminate scratches or other deeper defects. It aims to remove 60% of light defects.

Paint Correction (Cut & Polish) will address 90% of defects within the clear coat, leaving you with a smooth, glass like surface with incredible depth in the paintwork.

FAQ.

  • We recommend not using automatic car washes, or the brushes at the car wash. If you’re going to a car wash establishment, completely touchless is best.

The brushes and other cleaning equipment at these establishments are rarely cleaned regularly, or properly. This can transfer dirt and grime from one vehicle to the next, resulting in scratched or marked paint.

  • This is called Iron Fallout.

Rail dust, brake dust and industrial fallout can embed in your paint and, over time, start to oxidize causing micro rust spots.

Thankfully, a professional chemical and mechanical decontamination wash will usually do the trick!

  • Paint correction is correcting your vehicles paint to a state where clear coat defects, like scratches and swirls, are removed through a skilled, multi-step polishing process.

The level of correction is determined by the condition of the vehicles paint, and your personal expectations.

  • Paint Correction removes 90% of surface defects within the clear coat, making it more extensive than single stage polishing.

Polishing "enhances" paint by eliminating swirls, which makes it appear more glossy and shiny.

Paint correction targets deeper, more noticeable defects like light scratches, and is a multi-step process to "perfect the paint" as much as possible.

We talk more about the differences in this blog post

  • Our goal is to give you the best results to meet your expectations, but knowing the limit of each individual paint is crucial.

Ultimately, preserving your paint is our first concern. With the right skill and equipment, a 2 stage/step correction can provide excellent results. Performing any more stages (another round of reducing clear coat) may be detrimental instead of helpful. Now-a-days this is commonly seen only from those with less experience.

With a custom paint job that has ample layers of clear coat to work with, we have more flexibility to really fine tune the surface safely. But, with new paint coming thinner from factory, we like to make sure we’re not setting you up for failed paint or dangerously low clear coat in the future.

We measure the depth of the paint prior to beginning any correction, we always discuss our recommendations and be fully transparent about risks so you can make an informed decision for what’s best.

  • The paint correction process ranges from 8 - 48+ hours.

There are multiple factors that contribute the final cost and time. Current condition and size of the vehicle, severity of damages, individual paint (factory or aftermarket), history of the paint and your unique expectations all impact the end result.

The finished product will be worth the sacrifice of not having your vehicle for a few days, we guarantee it!

  • Paint correction will remove the majority of surface scratches and swirls.

However, some defects have penetrated too far within the clear coat. Even in that case, polishing the edges of the scratch can reduce its visibility most of the time.

Our goal is paint preservation, though. We always measure the depth of your paint. If a multi-step correction isn’t safe to do so, we will give you the best results with what’s safe.

  • 90% of the time, yes!

There are many stages between factory completion and the moment you take possession of a new vehicle. During this time vehicles face improper washing techniques and wear and tear from during transport.

Even if the paint has limited defects, a polish will amplify gloss and shine and it’s much easier to achieve this state while the paint has had minimal contact.

At this point, we also recommend a ceramic coating to “lock in” the revamped surface.

  • Our Sindicate Twist is focusing on protection.

A sealant is more durable than wax and will last longer. They're also more resistant to UV damage, detergents and can help provide protection from road grime.

While a wax is known for the deep gloss it provides, a paint sealant will still give you a layer of shine as well.

A professional ceramic coating is similar to both, but it is meant to last long term.

  • As the plastic trim oxidizes from UV light, it begins to fade and appear dull and chalky.

We recommend a professional decontamination wash and ceramic coating. This will bring back that rich, black colour and provide long lasting protection from the sun so it doesn’t occur again!
